Doula volunteers

Volunteer

Bethel Doula Service volunteers are often birth partners for the mothers we support.

They help the mothers we support to deliver their babies. After birth, our Doulas offer support with breastfeeding, and perhaps cook a meal, whilst mothers are still finding their feet.

Our volunteers are a diverse group. We have former and retired midwives, nurses, teachers and lawyers. Some of our volunteers are prospective midwives, who are gaining valuable experience in maternity services whilst offering their care, compassion and practical help. We also have refugee and asylum seekers who are able to empathise with the mothers we support in a system they are now much more familiar with.

All volunteers are DBS checked, and are supported by a Volunteer Coordinator. Each works through a specially developed training programme covering topics ranging from breastfeeding, to safeguarding and female circumcision.

If you have 2-3 hours per week to commit, and would like to find out more about volunteering with our service, please contact us, we would be delighted to hear from you.
